Owned by its own people

Why Digital Assets Africa builds for the Global South as an owner, not a conduit — and what that changes about the products.

There is a default script for technology in emerging markets: foreign capital arrives, a product is localised just enough to convert, value is extracted, and the profit leaves. Digital Assets Africa was built to run the opposite script.

Built where the users are

The majority of people who move across borders and run businesses across Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America do not live in the markets the big platforms were designed for. They transact on mobile money, communicate on WhatsApp and USSD, and operate in languages that come nowhere near English-first UX. A product that ignores those facts is not "global" — it is simply absent from most of the world.

So DAAL's ventures start from those facts. Endesha runs on a feature phone. Hyloti is community-checked. VisaNationals reads the rules the way an officer actually reads them. Each is designed for the rail that dominates its user's real life, not the rail that dominates a boardroom slide.

Ownership changes the incentives

We are builders with a long-term stake in the outcome — not a conduit for capital passing through.

Holding a product instead of flipping it changes what you optimise for. You protect users because you will still be here in five years. You settle payments directly to the operator, not through a rent-seeking intermediary. You keep the portfolio small enough to actually steward. This is what "digital assets" means at DAAL: durable enterprises, owned and compounded — the literal opposite of speculative crypto assets traded for a quick exit.

A holding company, on purpose

Incorporated in Nairobi in 2019, DAAL exists as a holding company so that each friction can have its own product and team while sharing one conviction and one long-term owner. Its founder, Dennis Obel, works between Nairobi and Sydney; the sister entity 3Men Pty Ltd anchors the Australian footprint.

If that thesis resonates, the clearest place to see it is the work itself.
